The success of Uruguay’s green energy transition has been lauded internationally. By 2023, Uruguay achieved a 98% share of renewables in total national electricity consumption. We are also committed to protecting 30% of our waters by 2030, announcing the creation of a new 12,000 km² Marine Protected Area (MPA) around the island of Isla de Lobos to better protect one of South America’s largest sea lion colonies.
